Hibiscus-pomegranate Tea

I drink quarts of this, or a variation on this, all summer. It’s the perfect pick-me-up after exercise or yardwork. The recipe comes from a Moosewood cookbook that I once checked from the library. The hibiscus-pomegranate is my favorite combination, but any fruity herbal tea and clear juice combo will be delicious. I also love peach tea with white grape juice.

Hibiscus-pomegranate Tea

A couple of teas to look out for are Celestial Seasonings Red Zinger and Republic of Tea Flowering Fruit Herb Tea.

10 hibiscus tea bags
6 cups cold water
2 cups pomegranate juice, or a blend

Steep the tea bags in water for 6 hours or overnight in the refrigerator. Remove teabags and squeeze the bags into the tea (a strainer and wooden spoon works great for this.) Add juice and stir.

Makes 2 quarts.

  1. I make something just like this in the summer. It’s so refreshing. Hibiscus and pomegranate are my favorite flavor combinations.

  2. I just mixed some of this with some inexpensive Cabernet and I’m drinking it right now. Nobody can tell whether I’m drinking wine or tea. It’s Hippy Sangria!

  3. Yum, this looks great, and so easy. I bet it’s just the right amount sweet and tart with the juice and tea combination.

  5. I’ve never had anything like this ever, so its truly appealing to me.
